Friday afternoon marked the third year in a row for me to make the annual trek to gorgeous Boyle Park in Mill Valley, California to shoot the Mill Valley Little League Hot Rods in action. The Hot Rods are skippered by my good friend and co-author of Championship Blood, NEVER. SAY. DIE., and Worth the Wait Brian Murphy. Murph is in his third year at the helm and is aided by a fine, veteran coaching staff that does an admirable job of keeping him in line. Murph’s son Declan swings from the left side and plays all over the infield, reminding many older locals of another tall, lefty-swinging Murphy who used to terrorize opposing pitchers at Boyle Park in the 1970’s. Game time was 4pm. The opponent was the Timber Rattlers. The game was only going to last a little more than an hour. My goal was to try and get as many good pictures of every young man on the Hot Rods as possible. It was not going to be easy!

For a photographer having a the chance to shoot a 4pm game at Boyle Park is a dream. The light is amazing and the backgrounds couldn’t be better. This was a game that I wish would have gone on for another hour so I could keep shooting. The light was getting better and better!

I first photographed many of these same boys with the Hot Rods two years ago, so it has been fun to watch them grow up and see their games improve. At their age two years is a long time!

Last night I uploaded a gallery of 191 pictures from the game for the parents of the ballclub to view and download. I hope they enjoy the pictures as much as I do! Thanks again to everyone who was so nice to me on Friday. I had a great time talking to many of the parents after the game and hope these pictures will help preserve some special memories of your boys when they first started to play baseball.
