We have a Game 7. One of the truly magnificent spectacles in all of sports. Tonight’s seventh game of the World Series between the Cubs and Indians here in Cleveland does not need any hype from me. Last night the Cubs scored early and often on their way to a 9-3 drubbing of the Tribe as Addison Russell led the way with a grand slam and six RBI’s. With the series knotted at three games apiece the Cubs are attempting to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win their first World Series since 1908. If the Indians can win in front of their home fans they will be celebrating their first title since 1948. Either way it will be a historical night and I am pretty damned excited to have the chance to shoot some pictures as it all unfolds.
I shot last night’s game from third base and it wasn’t the greatest game in the world for pictures for me, but I got a few that I liked. Take a look:

The most important pictures of this long series will come after the final out is made tonight. As photographers we all want/need to have the perfect “jube” or celebration picture. Sometimes it all happens facing our way, and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes we have an amazing clear shot as it all happens in front of us, and other times we get blocked by a security guard, coach, or umpire. When this happens I want to crawl into a hole and get as far away from the ballpark as possible. After covering every out of every game of a long series like this you simply must come away with a good picture that shows the championship team winning at the end. You need to tell the story. Do you play it safe and shoot the pitcher and catcher hugging? Do you gamble on an infielder who you think will jump 10 feet in the air? It all depends. You play mind games with yourself as you try to guess who the MVP is. You want the best players in your picture- not some crappy late-inning defensive replacement.
What will happen tonight? Man I have no clue. All I know is I hope I get a good picture that tells the story.
