Game 2 of the 2009 World Series between the Phillies and Yankees was played under much better conditions than Game 1. No rain was in the forecast! When our MLB Photos crew arrived in the Bronx the sun was shining and a much more comfortable night was promised for the 7:57pm first pitch.

I was very excited for this gme because I was going to be shooting from one of my favorite shooting positions: overhead first base. The new Yankee Stadium is much like all the other newer parks with an open concourse area where they put risers behind the last row of stands in the first deck for us to shoot from. Things usually work out well unless the fans wave rally towells or Thunderstix. Thankfully the Yankee fans are too cool for any of that nonsense.

Every time I have a chance to shoot overhead I look down on the field below like a blank canvass, just waiting for some cool stuff to happen on top of it. I love the backgrounds when I shoot overhead. The green grass or the brown dirt always make for such a nice background. I get very tired of the awful ads on outfield fences that ruin my backgrounds. When I go upstairs they disappear and my backgrounds clean up!

This game was a great chance for me to concentrate on the great Yankee captain: their shortstop Derek Jeter. Jeter is such an icon and is having a terrific season. From my position above first base I have a great angle on him making plays, so I focused on him for much of the game hoping to get him making a great diving play.

Jeter never dove for any balls tonight, but he made a few nice plays in the field and turned a nifty double play in the 8th inning to thwart a big Phillies rally.

The game was a good one that the Yanks pulled out 3-1 to even the Series at one game apiece as we all pack our bags and head to Philly for Game 3 on Saturday night. I was really glad the Phillies did not win, because I want this thing to go 6 or 7 games. Thankfully, with the Yankees win we have a Series!

Our MLB Photos crew will be driving to Philadelphia tomorrow and enjoying a fun dinner with other photographers in South Philly before we get back to work on Saturday. The Phillies park is a great place to work, as we enjoyed our time there last year at the 2008 World Series. It will be fun to go back!
