After spending last night getting soaked chasing pretty pictures of Yankee Stadium it sure was nice enjoying the spectacular afternoon around the ballpark tonight before and during Game 6 of the ALCS between the Angels and Yankees. After an awesome afternoon nap I caught the subway in Tribeca and made my way to the most famous address in my sports world: 161st. and River Avenue in the Bronx to shoot the outside of the stadium in the glowing late fall afternoon light. I was not disappointed!

I was so thrilled to have the chance to shoot two completely different looks at the ballpark, with last night’s rain and awesome reflections in the street, to today’s amazing sunlight. I knew today would be great after last night’s hard rain. Nothing like a rainstorm to clean out the air for a screaming sun splashed afternoon.

After the sun went down I headed inside and waited for batting practice to end so I could shoot some interiors during the game. After scouting around I thought it would be fun to try and get some fans cheering in the bottom of my frame in silhouette as the action took place on the field. I wanted to shoot wide and show the famous frieze that rims the entire new stadium, just like it did in the original House that Ruth Built from 1923-1973. I found a great spot in the last row of the right field corner in the auxiliary press box and waited for something good to happen for the pinstripes. The Yankees finally scored a few runs in the 4th inning and I had my pictures.

After the Yankees scored I wandered around the rest of the upper deck and shot many other angles,  but nothing I liked as much as the stuff I got in right field. After the 6th inning I bailed and took the subway back to my friend’s house in Tribeca, but not before stopping at my favorite area bar Walker’s for a beer and some wings as I watched the final three outs of the game on TV. Yankees 5, Angels 2. I am happy. This means I get to hang out in New York for the rest of the week and then drive to Philly for Game 3 with my terrific crew from MLB Photos.

My next game will be Wednesday night when the Phillies and Yankees tee it up for Game 1 of the 2009 World Series. Should be a fantastic match up. I can’t wait!
