The Texas Rangers have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent Vladimir Guerrero this evening worth a reported $5 million. The 35-year-old Guerrero hit .295 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI last season with the Angels. The Rangers have been looking at Guerrero as a designated hitter option for the coming season and they finally pulled the trigger tonight. Guerrero has been slowed down by injuries recently and can’t play in the field anymore. He will make a wonderful addition to the potent Rangers offense and will enjoy hitting in the Rangers offensive-friendly ballpark.
Guerrero has always been a blast to shoot and I have had the chance to see him many times during his years with the Angels. The last time I saw him was during Game 2 of the American League Division Series at Angel Stadium against the Red Sox last October. I am happy he is going to the Rangers because I will still get to see him many times in Oakland in 2010. I will also have a chance to shoot him in spring training in Surprise, AZ in a few months.
This is a good move for the Rangers. I think Vladdy can still hit if he can stay healthy enough, especially if he doesn’t have to worry about playing in the field. He will be missed by the Angels fans. They will have fond memories of his outstanding play during his time with the Halo’s. See you in Surprise Vladdy!
