It was cold and damp when I got to AT&T Park in San Francisco last night around 6pm. It is always weird for me to be at the ballpark in the winter when it is dark and cold and nasty, but this was a special occasion. The Giants were having a private Screening of the Official 2010 World Series Film and the 2010 Giants Season “The Magic Inside” DVD, and I just had to make the trek to The City and get some more proof that the Giants really did win the World Series a month ago.

Luckily my good friend and Giants season ticket partner Karl Mondon showed up so I had someone to hang out with. We grabbed some good seats early, and munched on some free Cracker Jacks. Then Karl asked me if I ever thought I would see the big logo on the screen (see above) that said “2010 World Series Champions” above the Giants orange and black SF logo. “No” I told him. It was still so hard to believe.
We settled in to watch the first DVD “The Magic Inside,” and it wasn’t bad. This DVD was put together by the Giants and the good people at MLB Productions. The film consisted of a long rehash of the season and a pretty quick overview of the post-season. There wasn’t much new material in this DVD as it was mostly highlights from regular game broadcasts and not much that I had not seen before. It was still fun to watch and it is something that any true Giants fan will enjoy seeing.
Next we saw the Official 2010 World Series Highlight Film. This DVD from MLB Productions is the official historical record of the Fall Classic and has been around since the first World Series film was produced for the troops overseas fighting in World War II in 1943 (Cardinals vs. Yankees). This film was put together to showcase the World Series, so there was a nice and quick overview of the season that moved along at a really brisk pace. There was one common denominator throughout both films that was kind of disturbing: Juan Uribe seemed to be the star of both DVDs! Man did he get a bunch of clutch hits in 2010, and now he is gone to the dreaded Dodgers! Man I hope that does not come back to bite the Giants in the ass in 2011. Of course, the best part of both films was when they rolled the credits and our crew from MLB Photos all got a mention. That is right everyone- Brad Mangin is listed in the credits of both films and I didn’t really do anything!

The coolest part of the night happened after most everyone had left the building. Karl and I were hanging out talking to some very nice Giants front office folks when Director of Photography Missy Mikulecky came by wheeling the World Series trophy in a heavy Anvil case. She asked if we would like to have our pictures taken with it. We did not want her to go through any trouble, but she insisted. It was fun to see how the trophy was inside a soft Tiffany bag placed inside this heavy case, packed in foam the same way I would pack a 400mm 2.8 lens if I needed to ship it!
When I finally got home late last night it was very fitting that one of the emails I had received while watching the films came from my Giants Client Relations Account Manager Margo Malone. It was my invoice to pay for our 2011 season tickets. It looks like the Giants raised our tickets a few bucks per game, but for my money it is still the best entertainment bargain in town. Now Karl and I just have to come up with $7,125.00
