We will only sign flat objects

I enjoyed one of the best afternoons in a long time today when I had the chance to sign copies of “Worth The Wait” with my co-author Brian Murphy at the San Francisco Giants Dugout Store at AT&T Park in San Francisco. I have been to many book signings before when sports writer friends have written books, but I have never participated in one. What a proud moment it was to sit at a table with Murph, and have people lined up out the door to say hello and get their newly-purchased copies of our book signed.

This book was truly a labor of love for Murph and I, and this book signing was the first time we were able to personally share out work with Giants fans. What a cool time it was sharing Giants memories with total strangers who all had the same thing in common: their love for the Giants. We started signing books at noon sharp and never stopped until just after 1:30pm. The customers were lined up out the store and the steady stream of people never stopped. So many people purchased multiple copies for friends and children. One guy bought copies for all the groomsmen in his upcoming wedding.

The real highlight of the day for me was seeing so many good friends drop by to say hi and pick up a book. My thrifty friend Russell Yip actually spent money on a book! Jim Merithew came, but he is waiting for a freebie. My sister Paula came, and my good friend Dan Rosenstrauch took a furlough day from the Contra Costa Times just to see me. I covered my first-ever MLB playoff games with Dan back in 1987 when I was an intern at the Times. We shot games 3 and 4 of the NLCS between the Cardinals and Giants at Candlestick. Dan was nice enough to take some pictures today with my camera so I had a record of the afternoon.
We have many more book signings scheduled, including our next one on Tuesday night, April 12 from 5:30 – 7:00pm at the AT&T Park Dugout Store before the game against the Dodgers.
Other book signings:
• Friday, April 15, 1 – 2pm, Embarcadero Dugout Store in San Francisco
