I made it back home to the Bay Area this morning on the MLB charter flight after last night’s 7-2 win by the Royals over the Giants in Game 2 of the 2014 World Series. As I settle into my home office this afternoon to write this blog, while trying to entertain my cat Willie at the same time, I can honestly say that I really had fun shooting last night’s ballgame. Even though I am a Giants fan!

Since the Giants won the Series opener I felt like they were playing with house money last night. Sure I would have loved for them to win and take a 2-0 lead in the Series, but the Royals are a tough ballclub and they are hard to beat in front of their terrific fans at home. Since I shot Game 1 at third base I traded with one of my teammates from MLB Photos Ron Vesely and shot from outside first base last night. I felt right at home once I settled into the spot about 30 minutes before first pitch and really enjoyed spending the entire nine innings shooting next to the fabulous staffer from the Kansas City Star John Sleezer.

The Giants hung close as the game remained tied at 2 into the bottom of the sixth inning when all Hell broke loose. That’s when the Royals seemed to be up for like an hour as they scored 5 runs off what appeared to be every pitcher in the Giants bullpen. By the time the inning was over the Giants were down 7-2 and all that was left was three innings of garbage time.

As the game wound down we almost had a fight, Tim Lincecum got hurt, and the Kansas City weather remained as delightful as could be for a World Series game played outdoors in late October. The Royals organization and their fans have waited 29 years for a World Series appearance and they relished last night’s win, so much so that an hour after the game ended there were still thousands of fans in the ballpark not wanting to leave!

We managed to grab a few hours sleep before our early trip to the airport to catch our MLB charter flight this morning back to San Francisco. It was super cool not having to worry about a tricky connecting flight today, and going through security on the tarmac right in front of the plane was cool!

It feels great to be back home and I can’t wait for the next three games at AT&T Park. I think this is going to be a good series and I think we will be going back to Kansas City. We just might have to get ready for more BBQ!
