Now we have a World Series. After last night’s 11-4 win by the Giants over the Royals in Game 4 of the 2014 World Series at AT&T Park the series is tied at two games apiece. This means no matter what happens in tonight’s Game 5 we are flying back to Kansas City on Monday for a Game 6 on Tuesday night. It is on!
For last night’s game I was crammed into a really nice spot outside third base at the far end of the Giants dugout, surrounded by several FOX television cameras and technicians, and cool folks from MLB Productions. I also had the pleasure of shooting next to Bay Area freelancer Tony Avelar. Tony is doing an amazing job shooting for the Giants this postseason. Teaming up with legendary club photographer Andy Kuno, the two make a great combo that any tram would be proud to take to the World Series. It was VERY crowded in our area and Tony was super cool to share his space with me. Thanks Tony!
The game did not start out too well for the Giants and when they were down 4-1 early you had to wonder if the Royals might just roll them here in San Francisco. But no! The kid Matt Duffy got a HUGE pinch hit to lead off the third inning and later score to make it 4-2 Royals, and the comeback had begun.
Sure the Giants bats came alive en route to the 11-4 win, but none of this would have happened if not for the real hero of the game: the Giants secret weapon out of the bullpen Yusmeiro Petit. It is unfair to expect Petit to be the hero every time he comes into a game and throw goose eggs on the board, but that is what he did again last night for three innings, allowing the Giants to get back into the game as he befuddled Royals batters.
Weeks like this become a blur. You forget what day it is. I think today is Sunday. I know tonight is Game 5, and I know we leave for Kansas City Monday morning. First, Madison Bumgarner will take the hill for the Giants at 5:07pm as Fire On The Mountain blares over the PA system. I hope the Giants win. I hope I make some good pictures. One thing is for sure- it won’t rain!
