The Los Angeles Dodgers have a named a new manager for the upcoming 2016 season, and their newest skipper is a guy who will be hard for many Bay Area ball fans to boo when the Dodgers come to town next season. That’s because new Dodger manager Dave Roberts finished his playing career wearing the orange and black when he played for Bruce Bochy in 2007 and 2008. During his time in San Francisco Roberts became good friends with many people in the organization and the local media. He has a great personality and is easy to root for. Heck, he is in the wine business with former Giants fan-favorite and all-star Rich Aurilia. The two are business partners who own the Red Stitch Wine Group. How can any Giants fan boo a friend of Aurilia’s?
Is this a good move for the Dodgers? I don’t know. The club has a roster full of talent and money to burn on payroll. They have also won three division titles in a row. However, the caustic atmosphere in the clubhouse and failure to advance in the post season led to Don Mattingly leaving last month, so they needed to make a change. Roberts has no managerial experience but is a great dude that the Dodgers ball club will love playing for. The guy will be smiling like crazy when spring training opens in Glendale, Arizona in February. I just wonder if he will still be smiling much in August.
The main reason I am writing this blog post about Roberts is that I have some nice pictures of him throughout his playing career sitting in my archive that I wanted to share. Let’s take a look!
