The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have made a great addition to their ballclub this afternoon by signing former Tigers closer Fernando Rodney to a two-year deal worth $11 million according to ESPNDeportes.com. Rodney has been the Tigers closer the past two seasons after being a set-up man during their run to the World Series in 2006.
Rodney broke onto the national scene during the Tigers great 2006 season and man did he throw GAS back then, often topping out at over 100 mph on the radar gun. Rodney will be 33 when the 2010 season opens and he will add much needed support in the Angels bullpen as the very scary Brian Fuentes is still their closer. I am not a big Fuentes fan and would not be surprised if Rodney ends up as the Halos closer by mid season. Rodney converted 37 saves in 38 tries last season.
Rodney will be one of the new guys wearing Angels red and white that I will need to shoot when I get down to Arizona in March for spring training. I like it when the Angels get new guys because I love going to Tempe to shoot in their awesome ballpark- Tempe Diablo Stadium. The Angels still have more work to do this off season, especially with the Mariners making so many moves. The AL West is going to be very competitive in 2010.
